Another distinctive trait of ghouls is that when they are excited or hungry, the color of their sclera in both eyes turns black and their irises red. A ghoul's skin is resistant to ordinary piercing weapons, and it has at least one special predatory organ called a kagune ( Japanese: 赫子), which it can manifest and use as a weapon during combat. Ghouls have powers including enhanced strength and regenerative abilities - a regular ghoul produces 4–7 times more kinetic energy in their muscles than a normal human they also have several times the RC cells, a cell that flows like blood and can become solid instantly. Tokyo Ghoul is set in an alternate reality where ghouls, creatures that look like normal people but can only survive by eating human flesh, live among the human population in secrecy, hiding their true nature in order to evade pursuit from the authorities. Considering what a great friend he is, this simple fact probably makes Hide more satisfied than any fanfare in the world.Tokyo Ghoul ( Japanese: 東京喰種 ( トーキョーグール ), Hepburn: Tōkyō Gūru) is a Japanese dark fantasy manga series written and illustrated by Sui Ishida. Fans should be content that Kaneki's ending, at least, is a happy one. Unfortunately, some serious health problems led to the series ending prematurely. It's possible that Sui Ishida, the manga-ka, planned more for Hide. Just once, it would be interesting to see his more vulnerable side, to catch a glimpse of Hide's personal struggles. Hide has clearly been through so much himself, and even then, he remains carefree and positive. Receiving this heavy tidbit just moments before the series concludes is especially painful. Indeed, it's is only in the last few pages of Tokyo Ghoul :re that fans learn of Hide's sad backstory: he was the child of deceased ghoul investigators. As someone who spent all of his time supporting Kaneki's character development, giving Hide more development of his own would have been appreciated. Not only was it lacking in the grandeur and fanfare he deserved, but it left a lot of Hide's very interesting character unexplored. Amon asks Hide exactly that. Towards the end of the series, the real Hide plays an important role in saving Kaneki from the "Dragon" kagune monster. Even so, that even thinking about Hide provides Kaneki this spiritual awakening makes the beloved character seem especially angelic. Admittedly, in this scenario, it's an imaginary version Hide. When Kaneki loses his will to live while fighting against Arima, it's Hide who helps him rise again (inspiring another iconic white-hair change). What's inspiring is that Hide is still a normal human with no crazy ghoul powers and no training in ghoul combat - he just wants to help his friend. Fans initially feared Hide was dead, but it turns out he lived covertly "Scarecrow." He was helping Kaneki from the shadows, immersing himself in the incredibly dangerous ghoul world to do it.
